The South Buda-Region Regional Development Self-Governing Association was founded in 1996 for the purpose of properly coordinating the development of the regional settlements, establishing common regional development programs, and setting up a common financial fund for implementing the developments in line with the law.

Associated settlements:
Budaörs,
Diósd,
Érd,
Pusztazámor,
Százhalombatta,
Törökbálint,
Sóskút,
Tárnok és
Budakeszi.

In 1999 three more regions joined the group of associated settlements: Budapest 11th District, Budapest 12th District and Budapest 22nd District.
